Within the “Breadbasket of the Confederacy,” lies the growing town of Broadway. Broadway was originally named Custer’s Mill, but after Union soldiers destroyed the Mill during a raid, the town needed a new name. According to several sources, “Broadway” was fitting because it represented the economic prosperity of a frontier boomtown.
Though Broadway’s claim-to-fame may once have been the mill, now the town’s pastoral views and easy access to interstate 81 make it a popular spot to settle down and plant roots, especially for those people who are seeking the solitude of country living after moving away from the hustle and bustle of Northern Virginia. You drive by many Valley farms and land while cruising along Broadway’s rural roads, but if you’re looking for the comfort and convenience of a subdivision, don’t discount the town of Broadway.
There are a few neighborhoods to choose from, some of which are within walking distance to schools, the Saturday Farmers’ Market, and a local park. A couple of other unique Broadway landmarks include a classic car museum, Ben Franklin’s Crafts (J & B’s Country Store), and a few other historic buildings in Broadway’s quaint downtown.
The town also has a locally-owned supermarket and a Dollar General store for odds and ends. It's Friday night and you don’t want to cook after watching the Broadway Gobblers win a home football game? You’re in luck. Broadway offers several dining options, including local restaurants like Francesco’s and fast food like Subway and Burger King.
