If you know Michael Harnish at all, you know that he is always working on a house project. Rachael, his wife, often complains that no surface is left alone when Michael considers a new house project (borrowing the idiom incorrectly- “leave no stone unturned”). (Lots of love to Rachael for tolerating Michael’s projects.)
When we purchased this house, we knew that we would have to replace the carpet in the master bedroom. See below to understand why- even Carter the dog looks sad:

So, the options for replacement of that carpet were endless. Another carpet? No, the dogs are too hairy. A laminate? A Luxury Vinyl Tile? A hardwood? We decided to go with a real 3-inch hardwood as the rest of our house is either tile or hardwood from the 50’s, and I wanted to install it myself but had never installed laminate or LVT. (I had a little experience installing hardwood.) As the hardwood acclimated to the house, I borrowed a few tools from some contractor friends and rented a sander from our local Home Depot! It took a full day to install the 250 sq. ft. of pre-sealed red oak and then the next four days to sand, buff, and coat with polyurethane. Big thanks to Michael’s dad for coming down to help install and Michael’s mom for babysitting Madelyn. Do you like the finished product?
