One of the newest additions to Harrisonburg’s downtown culinary scene has something unique to offer: games. And when I say games, I mean lots of them: bowling, ping pong, foosball, shuffleboard, darts, billiards, board games, all under the same roof. Ruby’s Arcade isn’t messing around; it’s the perfect place to get serious about having fun.
This place is different. Murals adorn every wall – aliens, giant owls, a landscape reminiscent of a Japanese painting. A four-lane duckpin bowling alley stretches down one side of the game room, the small balls and pins the ideal size for head-to-head kid vs. adult competitions. Lounge-style seating is tucked here and there throughout the establishment, so it’s never far to find a place to relax and sip your beer while you wait for your friends to battle it out over a game of ping pong. When things get hopping the senses buzz: it’s cozy and loud and full of whoops of laughter, cries from the latest near miss.
And then there’s the food. Centered around wood-fired pizza and BBQ, the menu boasts a variety of items, from catfish to kale to gouda mac ‘n’ cheese. The fries are shoestring, for the purists. The oven alone is a sight to behold; the giant red and white tiled contraption, despite being tucked in the corner in the kitchen, is sure to catch the eye, and in addition it kicks out a fantastic pizza. The BBQ, smoked daily, is always made from the freshest, never frozen, meats. And to top off what is already the ideal compliment to an evening of gaming, you can buy pitchers! Of beer! Pitchers have virtually disappeared from the H-burg dining scene, so it’s fun to see them on the rebound.
So whether you’re looking for evening out with the family or with the friends, Ruby’s Arcade might just be your place. Kids, grown-up kids, and adults are sure to find good company and good fun alike.
